Quick Start Guide
Go from download to your first captured meeting in under 5 minutes. This guide walks you through installation, account setup, and your first meeting capture.
System Requirements
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating System | macOS 13 Ventura or later |
| Processor | Apple Silicon (M1+) or Intel Core i5 |
| RAM | 8 GB |
| Disk Space | 500 MB for the app, plus storage for recordings |
| Internet | Required for sync, AI processing, and bot mode |
Apple Silicon Recommended
Karnyx is optimized for Apple Silicon. M-series Macs will see faster local transcription and lower power consumption during Ghost Mode capture.
Step 1: Download and Install
- Download the latest version from karnyx.ai or directly from the Mac App Store.
- Open the
.dmgfile and drag the app to your Applications folder. - Launch the app. macOS may ask you to confirm since it was downloaded from the internet. Click "Open" to proceed.
- Grant the required permissions when prompted:
- Microphone access — for in-person meeting capture
- Screen recording / audio capture — for Ghost Mode system audio capture
- Accessibility — for detecting active meeting windows
Why these permissions?
Ghost Mode uses macOS system audio capture to record meetings without joining as a bot. These permissions are required by macOS and all data stays on your device until you choose to sync.
Step 2: Create Your Account
- On first launch, the app opens the setup wizard. Click "Create Account".
- Sign up with your work email or use Google / Microsoft SSO for one-click setup.
- Choose your plan. Every account starts with a 14-day free trial with all Professional features unlocked.
- Set your display name and time zone. These are used for meeting scheduling and summaries.
Step 3: Connect Your Calendar
- In the setup wizard (or later via Settings > Integrations), click "Connect Calendar".
- Choose Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar.
- Authorize the OAuth connection. Karnyx requests read-only access to your calendar events.
- The app performs a 30-day cold-start hydration, importing your recent and upcoming meetings to build initial context.
What syncs from your calendar?
Karnyx imports event titles, times, attendee lists, and meeting join URLs. It does not access your email, files, or any other data beyond calendar events.
Step 4: Capture Your First Meeting
With your calendar connected, Karnyx will automatically detect when a meeting starts. Here is how it works:
- Automatic detection: When a calendar event with a meeting link begins, Karnyx shows a subtle notification asking if you want to capture it.
- Ghost Mode (default): Click "Capture" and the app silently records system audio. No bot joins your call. No one else knows.
- Manual capture: Click the menu bar icon and select "Start Capture" for ad-hoc or in-person meetings.
- After the meeting: The app processes the audio, generates a transcript, identifies speakers, extracts action items, and produces an AI summary.
